ARCHIVES:
December: Now that so many people have a computer I've decided to put this particularly useful
URL on our main page rather than where the computer advice normally goes. There's so much general information
that that seems a good idea. Have a look and see what you think ...
November: A "really useful" site this month. A set of directories
which will let you find most things you usually look for on the web. Click
here.
October: A very different site this month. You may feel it's mostly for younger people, or Americans,
or males, but it seems to me there's enough intriguing material to make it worth a
visit
. It also provides a link to YouTube. Don't know what that is? Go
see
!
September: One reads some awful stories about how companies will try to evade their responsibilities
when something they've sold you goes wrong or won't work. Have a look at this very straightforward fact sheet which
clearly lists the acts which relate to these problems. Armed with this a wronged customer should usualy prevail! There's also
a very succinct analysis of it on a newspaper letter page (the third letter down) here.
August: One for the Art Group this month. Click here to access a major art gallery which also
enables you to get your own work on the web
... (Please note there are also three new entries on our computer page - click "here" in the
second paragraph above).
July: A very exciting opportunity has just arisen for those of us who have North Yorkshire County
Library cards - as all of us who use the local library do. We can now access online a whole range of reference
sources free! Just click here to see
what's available. All you have to enter is the number on your card just above the bar code - but, as I learned to my cost,
leave no spaces! You can also find some helpful advice on accessing this site
here.
June: Your webmaster has resisted the temptation to offer some soccer
links this month (and hasn't the heart to offer any rugby). Instead, there's some very
useful information available on finding, and more importantly, saving money on train fares.
If you're interested, get the advice from this
site
.
May: An altruistic site this month. It gives you the chance to donate food to starving people
in the third world and also to provide breast scans for women who otherwise can't afford to have them. All at no
cost to you. Click here for the
first site. When it comes up click on the bar marked "Help feed the hungry". Then, when the page changes, click on
"back" (green arrow facing left, top left-hand corner. This will return you to the earlier page. You will see some
coloured tabs running across the top of the page. Click on the second, pink, one. When the page changes, click on
"Fund free mammograms". That's it!
April: This is an interesting and unusual site. Not only does it let you into the fascinating world of the
English judiciary (including interactive quizzes) but it takes you through the 'small
claims court'
process
...
March: One for the ladies
this month ...
February: For once words fail me! There's so much on this site that no-one could be dissatisfied.
Just have a look! Also, there a link to a
superb site on our computer page, which makes available a mass of shareware and freeware (q.v.)
January: Two sites to start the year. One helps you with an amazing range of money tips (such as how to borrow
cash on a 0% credit card and then invest it at 5%!) You can also have a regular email of current tips sent to your inbox.
View the site
here. The other helps you with
domestic chores! Don't believe it? Look here
