ARCHIVES:
December: Here are three Christmas sites, all very different. The
first is just for fun, and it's
infuriating! The second
is for the more literary among you - a site which lets you hear a poem being read by its writer (plus much else), including
such luminaries as Tennyson and
Browning. Finally a site to let you know where the cheapest
petrol is being sold locally just by putting in your postcode (you have to register to
get the information).
November: Several
price comparison sites for
books, DVDs
, CDs and
videos.
October: Have you been snared by the 'sudoku' craze? Here's a site to help you when you get
stuck.
September: Some useful " admin" sites: Click
here for the national Government site, here
for the County Council, here
for the District, and here for the Town.
August: An excellent search engine for
finding the cheapest flights anywhere.
July: A range of marvellous optical illusions, puzzles, quizzes, etc.
June: A site of particular relevance to those of us in the 'third age' is this one
maintained by Age Concern. It contains reminiscences of life throughout the 20th Century, and it is set up so that we can
contribute our own memories.
May: Way back in February, 2003, our site of the month was a "people's encyclopaedia" (q.v.).
It was just like any other encyclopaedia, except that anyone could create an entry or modify an existing one. That idea has now
broadened to include a "people's news agency". Now you can also be your own
news journalist.
April: The experts say that this site is " ... turning into a huge global resource." For starters
it contains more
than 3.5 million photographs. See what you make of it.
March: The site this month is a superb resource - a set of free online tutorials run by Bristol University.
There is also an incredible number of fascinating links, including one to the Web Public Library!
However, the main link may be found here.
February: Last month you got 100 sites for your money, and again it hasn't been possible
to limit this months 'worthwhile' site to only one. There is so much going on in local and national government
that I've felt bound to publish seven key sites which will keep you both intrigued and
informed ...
January: a site to end all sites! One hundred links taking you to significant pages dealing with art,
education, health, news and many, many
more.
